Friends of Charlottesville Downtown produces and supports a number of community events and programs to provide visitors and locals alike with cultural experiences and community connection in Downtown Charlottesville throughout the year. With events ranging from kid-friendly scavenger hunts to block parties downtown, there is always something for everyone to enjoy.

Friends of Charlottesville Downtown Signature Events
Downtown Express
Take a ride on Friends of Cville’s Downtown Express! An electric trackless train for everyone to explore the heart of downtown Charlottesville; it offers a fun, different, and eco-friendly way for children and families to experience the Mall.
Saturday rides run from 10am to 1pm, departing next to the fountain at Central Place. The rides are free and reservations are not required in advance!
We are looking for volunteers to help us run the Downtown Express! Volunteer roles include: driving the train, assisting families on and off the train, and collecting emails for our downtown newsletter. Magic on the Mall
Every winter season celebrate the holiday festivities in Downtown Charlottesville. Presented by Friends of Charlottesville Downtown, there is something for every member of the family during Magic on the Mall. Join us to experience winter splendor and wonder FREE OF CHARGE!

Each May celebrate the return of spring in Downtown Charlottesville! Presented by Friends of Charlottesville Downtown, featuring a kid's scavenger hunt, student art crawl, and more; watch the city come into bloom!
