Details
Secret Belgian binding (or crisscross binding) features a linear pattern of colored thread crisscrossing over and between the spine and the two covers. This structure holds the cover boards together without glue; signatures are then cleverly stitched into the spine. The result is a sturdy binding which opens completely flat making it perfect for journals, diaries, notebooks, scrapbooks and sketchbooks.
Participants will fold signatures and use a jig to create sewing holes. Then, using fine art paper and book cloth, participants will cover 3 separate boards (front, back, spine), sew the boards together, and sew the signatures into the cover. Participants will learn principles for making the binding in different sizes.
